My buddy sometime ago gave me a 360 that included a ms28 drive (this is the original) that had serious issues with reading discs. He tried to fix it with a ms25 drive but didn't have the patience or the know-how. He gave me one controller, no memory card, no HDD, some retail games that may or may not work... I know of the requirement of extracting a drive-key from the drive to implant into the new ms25 drive, but there are a lot of steps and new terminology that I need to overcome.

I know about issues with chipset. I have a nForce4 mobo that is said to work in THIS guide. If not, another friend is sending me a couple SATA PCI cards to try with. (Free shipping from work FTW!) Lacking any of that working, I am prepared to get a VIA card.

What it boils down to is I need someone more experienced to look over my guide and tell me if it lacking anything. (In particular, I need instructions for swapping the drives, which that one doesn't cover.)

In case it wasn't clear, I want to flash CFW into the new drive, thus the iXtreme.

Please and thank you!

PS2 games not working but PS1 games do, memory card help too

Hi there,
I wondered if anyone could help me with this problem. A few years ago I sold a bunch of stuff on ebay and with some spare money, decided to buy a PS2 (on ebay). I had a variety of PS1 and PS2 games from when I was younger and the PS2 arrived promptly and worked fine. All the games worked perfectly well, but I didn't have a memory card to save any games and never got round to buying one.

I'm home from University this summer and decided to set it up again and this time purchase a memory stick. I've been playing a lot of PS1 games until my memory stick arrived and now that it has I've found I can't save any of them. The PS2 reckonizes the memory stick as I can access it and delete files, but I cannot save to it.
I don't know much about memory sticks but it got me thinking that maybe I could only save PS2 games on it rather then PS1 games and would have to purchase a memory stick that saves PS1 games seperate. So I decided to try and save my PS2 games to see if this was the case. I hadn't yet used any of these this summer but despite working perfectly fine a few years back, now they did not work! One game wasn't reckonized at all (then was a few days later but still wouldn't play) and the other loaded eventually but kept freezing. I don't know what the problem is. My boyfriend said the discs were scratched but personally I couldn't see how this was a problem as they were rarely used and a lot of my PS1 games were in worse condition then them and worked fine.

So I'm really asking two things. Will I need to purchase a memory stick specifically to save PS1 Games (bear in mind I haven't been able to test my theory about it only working for PS2 games) or is it just a dodgy memory stick (I purchase it off ebay, but like I said, it's still accessable). And do you think the games are scratched or maybe the settings need to be changed, as all my PS1 games work but none of my PS2 ones all of a sudden?

Sorry its long. Thanks!
Louise x
