i tested it from the hdd on one game and it works im sharing it so maybe we can do more with it

OK, after this thread had become sort of a trash can, I figured it would be a good thing to transform it into a "FAQ/How-to Thread"
've kept posts that didn't fit the FAQ, but yet contained some good info...

hope it's gonna make this thread more readable...

1. Where can I get this file?

Not here, don't ask, search the internet

2. Would any cb file I may find do?

No, there are some that have been edited to boot syste1.cnf, so that won't work, unless you hex-edit
it to system.cnf again

If you get the message "game did not start" after hitting x, you've got this copy...

Also, try to get the version that has been cracked to work with modchips!

2b. How do I tell if the CB version I have is OK?

No, unless

a) you are no exploit user and

b) have no modchip and

c) want to run hdl off a self made DVD, se above, Nr. 6

Maybe you can just get the pal codes?

9. Can I convert PAL codes to NTSC and vice versa?

Yes, this is possible...search around for the "how-to"

10. Does this work with every game?

Apparently not.

Some ppl claim they can't cheat on some games:

fatal frame 1 and 2

but this could be due to wrong codes...just try

11. After hitting "start game" I get the message: "Game did not start. Please retry"

there are some CB elfs that have been edited to boot syste1.cnf
If you get the message "game did not start" after hitting x, you've got this copy...(it's used on a cd which has both hdl and codebreaker on it),

This one is no use as a single elf , unless you hex-edit it to boot system.cnf again

(in that case use a hex editor search your elf for the yste1.cnf string [yes, yste1.cnf, not syste1.cnf] and change it for ystem.cnf)

12. I've got a SLIM PSTwo...anything I should consider?

if you have a network adapter you can use that to update your cb list...

or use a thumbdrive!

14. My CB does not start when I have a thumbdrive inserted...

try another cb elf or get another thumbdrive....

15. where does this elf file save its configs?

if you have your hdd connected then it will save its settings on your hdd. if you don't then it will save on your memory card.

Could this damage the dvd dirve if it is still spinning?

no it wont damage youy ps2, because as soon as you hit eject, the ps2 stops the disc then ejects the drive.

You can find it in ule using the HDDManager

PP..GAME ID.NUMBER.PCB

(example. PP.SLUS-20202.1108.PCB)

I guess on the hdd it's single for every game

and in the PCB folder on MC0:\

18.Once I find the PCB file in HDDManager, how am I supposed to move it? The menu doesn't seem to allow for copying.

J the CB partition on the hdd is 512MB regardless of hdd used, be it the official 40GB or say a Maxtor 200GB. Removing games will not decrease the size of the partition in anyway. Also please note that the partition is not visible through WinHiip, HDL Dump, or HDL Dumb. listen guys the only way that elf in any format to be allowed on this site would be buy making a ppf file of the patched version and uploading that so other people can patch there own copy of codebreaker

But you can Patch your ISO's to load ARMax (I think CodeBreaker should work aswell)
first then it loads the ISO.

I've used it for alot of games I *had* (it burned down) on my HDD
It worked like this


When you chose the Game you wanted to play, it loaded AR Max EVO first, than I did my thing, Press Start, Boot game with codes on, Pressed X when it said, Insert disc now.

and Voilla it worked (not always some cheats didn't work)

After auto eject put in a real PS2 game (iuse call of duty 2) then after screen goes black press eject and put in trigger disk for exploit and press eject again. The trigger disk loads and goes to the sony browser screen from there load the trigger disk which starts exploit. Then start the game you selected cheats for and it works ( i have done it on GTA san andreas)

Same method as here except using elf file of codebreaker

here are the steps for cheating on HDD installed games with gameshark (v4.1 and the w/media player versions tested)

retail HDL/HDA users:
1. load gameshark
2. choose cheats
3. choose start game
4. after auto eject put in RETAIL HDL/HDA disc
5. pick your game

modchip users:
1. load gameshark
2. choose cheats
3. choose start game
4. after auto eject
5. put in HDL/HDA original/backup
6. pick your game

exploit users:
1. load gameshark
2. choose cheats
3. choose start game
4. after auto eject put in ANY RETAIL ps2 disc
5. immediately after the screen flashes to black hit eject
6. insert ps1 boot cd for memory card exploit
7. now you should be at Sony's browser (MC and disc icons)
8. select the disc now your at your boot menu
9. load HDL
10. pick your game

swapmagic users:
1. load gameshark
2. choose cheats
3. choose start game
4. after auto eject
5. put in swapmagic
6. load HDL/HDA original/backup

No it don´t work with Armax! I tested it a few weeks ago and no luck. The only method is to inject the Armax into a iso (Hybrid method from Tot31).

That´s why i wanna have this codebreaker elf file !!!

technically, can't you just rename the S***_***.** file (*=random number/digit) to Codebreaker.ELF??? i mean, the SYSTEM.CNF file is just to boot it with the CD and the other files are just to take up space... so boxxy27, if you currently own a Codebreaker, just pop it into your PC, copy the S***_***.** (for US version it would be like SLUS_***.**) to your harddrive and then rename it to Codebreaker.ELF or w/e (make sure you name the extension as .ELF) and then it will work

that will only work with version 4 and 7. i have those and they didnt work all that great. i tried the same thing with my 8.1, and that didnt work.

your best bet would be to search the internet for the cracked 9.2 because i have that, and it works for a fact. MOST games can use cheat codes with it on the hdd also.

guys i have a modded ps2.i am trying to use some cheats with the cracked cb9.2 dvd and my hdadvance hdd.
i follow these steps.
1.boot cd9.2
2.select cheat for the game in the hdd.
3.i select to run the game,the tray opens and i put an original dvd game for triggering.
4.when the screens gets black,i hit eject,the tray opens and i get the ps2 browser menu.
5.i put the hdadvance boot cd and then i get the error message to insert a ps2 disc.:/

does that mean that my modchip doesnt allow to run a boot cd twice or is something that i am not doing right?
