-[TUTORIAL]- Boot a HDL.elf from a Retail HDL disc
This is for those who bought a retail HDLoader/HDAdvance disc and just want to upgrade to the latest version of HDLoader without the need to go thru the exploit process.
This also works as a multi-loader by adding elf files and editing the msystem.cnf with the apps filename. Files.rar (download this) Needed: PS2LOAD.ELF (included in files.rar) HDLOADERv0.8b.ELF (use whatever version you want to use) SCEE_DD folder (included in files.rar) HD Loader retail disc (or HDAdvance retail disc) Winhiip 1.7.6 Need help using it? Guide on using WinHIIP 1.7.6 An IDE HDD for PS2 (internal ) A Network Adapter A PS2 CDGenPS2 v3.0 Create a new folder on your desktop and extract the files.rar contents into it. Add your HD Loader.elf to the folder and rename it to HDLOADER.ELF Prepare files: Right-click in folder window and mouse-over 'New', select 'text document' Copy & Paste this: Code:
\HDLoader\cdrom0:\HDLOADER.ELF;1 Repeat above step for another text document Copy & Paste this: Code:
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\PS2LOAD.ELF;1 VER = 1.00 VMODE = NTSC Now save this document as SYSTEM.CNF Create ISO: Open CDGenPS2 Drag and drop in order those files/folder SCEE_DD SYSTEM.CNF PS2LOAD.ELF MSYSTEM.CNF HDLOADER.ELF ![]() Multi-loader [Optional] Pre-made Multi-loader Image by McBeth You can have more than HDLoader to select from by adding the elfs to your cdgen compilation and adding the correct entries to the MSYSTEM.CNF Example MSYSTEM.CNF: Quote:
\title name\cdrom0:\app.elf ADD THE ELFs after MSYSTEM.CNF in cdgenPS2 ![]() Save: Click VOL to rename "CDGENPS2" to PS2LOAD.ELF Optional- its not necessary to do this. Click IMG to save as an .iso ( this name will show in the HDLoader Game List) ![]() Install the ISO to the PS2's HDD Open Winhiip and install the iso as you would a ps2 game with your ps2's hdd connected to the PC. The menu name will appear in the game list (so name it something you will know its the loader) The boot file is SCES_666.66 by default (dont change this! ) or PS2LOAD.ELF if u change it in CDGenPS2. ![]() Enable Mode3 (unload HDL) Now you can select this with your retail HD Loader/HD Advance disc from the game list and press X For single app: At the PS2Loader screen, just press X twice For Multi-loader : At this screen "Change the disc And press X to play", just press X Example Menu screen: Quote:

Re: -[TUTORIAL]- Boot a HDL.elf from a Retail HDL disc
I make some test and ran into problem
First, i want to transfert the iso using the GUI v1.4 by vtecorona. The iso made by ultraiso wasn't recongnize but the one by CDGenPS2 is. So it's preferable to use this way. Secondly, the iso is working and I have access to the loading screen of PS2Loader (wich is a multiple elf applications loader). I can select the HDLoader and I'm able to see the game list. The problem is all the game there is giving me the BSOD. EDIT : FORGET IT, I FORGOT TO ENABLE MODE 3 ON PS2LOADER ISO. Can it be cause the PS2loader was boot from the exploit and not the original HDL/HDA. I also remark that at the first screen, it says "CHANGE DISC AND PRESS X" !!! EDIT : Do u think that it worth the cost to make a full detail tuto on how to loader multiple ELF from the ISO and the USB

Re: -[TUTORIAL]- Boot a HDL.elf from a Retail HDL disc
it's more for the sake of completion...
most users load launcher=>hdl, so the launcher=>hdl=>launcher=>hdl path is a bit long... |

Re: -[TUTORIAL]- Boot a HDL.elf from a Retail HDL disc
ok i had time to test a bit and you were right about UltraISO, it didnt create a working iso file, i had only tested it by editing an existing iso, which was created with cdgen. The LBA were incorrect , even if the files were added in order.
I edited the tutorial with your method.

Re: -[TUTORIAL]- Boot a HDL.elf from a Retail HDL disc
And i thing it can find applications from the USB stick also
Just make many lines in the MSYSTEM.CNF ex. /HDLOADER/CDROM/HDLOADER.ELF /SMS/USB/SMS_2.0(REV).ELF

Re: -[TUTORIAL]- Boot a HDL.elf from a Retail HDL disc
I tried to get a ps2 game to load as a stand alone, but kept getting red screened, lol, not that i expected it to work ,but ive got the multi-loader working ok and added it to the tutorial.
I'll mess with loading from other devices tomorrow, unless you get to it first slicer.

Re: -[TUTORIAL]- Boot a HDL.elf from a Retail HDL disc
Good thinking drewmerc! I will try this out as soon as I'm able. Question is, does the IOP reset also flush out the HDTV program code? Also would I need to burn this ISO to CD and swap it at HDTV "insert disc" prompt, since the PS1 exploit disc cannot be booted?
